about
Dandelion is the first single release from Mikey Kenney’s second album on Penny Fiddle Records.
Described by Trad Folk as “...a rare gem..there are few people who embody traditional music in quite the same way....”, this new single release sees the manifestation of the two sides of Mikey’s musical personality. A journey of discovery and collaboration, standing firmly on the roots of a traditional background, through which the song Dandelion found itself. A love song as an antidote to fallout, Dandelion is at times healing, happy and joyful, unwavering in the belief that everything will come full circle, bringing hope and reunion.
lyrics
When I was a boy,
before the wind did blow,
all about my home often wandering I'd go.
Over hill and dale,
in the pastures down low,
rolling in the long grass where the dandelions flow.
But as I grew older,
I began to grow shy,
turbulent forces swept down from upon high.
The vale swelled with gales,
against me they railed,
and the dandelion florets all took to the sky.
Dandelion,
Float yourself upon the winds of time.
I know I'm bound to find you,
somewhere down the line,
Scattered over,
Some sweet meadow for me to find.
There I'll make my bed and lie,
when I am yours and you are mine,
Dandelion.
For many's the long year,
it did not relent.
Time after time,
in the tempest I was bent.
Only constant roaming,
would betray what was meant,
that I could not bear the weight,
Of the clock in its ascent.
Forgive me,
I could not see,
the obvious truth behind the lion's tooth;
that I missed you.
I missed you.
Well, now I am much older,
and a little bolder too,
I wander right back down to where the dandelions once grew,
And in the gentle springtime,
I see my flowers anew;
I was never for the wind,
I was always for you.
